All Coats Delivered for Winter! |
|
This year, the Coats for Kids Foundation had a fantastic year and all of you are to be thanked for making this possible! Unfortunately, we have now exhausted our funds and sources for new winter coats. That's a good and a bad thing. In 2009, we met every single request for new coats in the Metro DC area. We also had more adopt a school programs than ever before.
However, we will not have more coats until next September.

A rising star in the music industry who has played with James Taylor and Livingston Taylor among others is raising awareness and collecting new coats for the foundation. Seth Glier from Shelbourne, MA, a singer/songwriter begins his 12 shows tonite in Cambridge, MA.
The tour will take Seth from Massachusetts, to New York, to Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and Michigan. The complete tour schedule is below.
For the Coats for Kids Foundation, this is very special in that we have not had a singer/songwriter helping us raise awareness and help get new coats for disadvantaged kids before. Even more important, Seth will be at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA on January 6th. We encourage all to attend one of his shows. For fans who do bring a new coat to a show, he will give them a special gift as a way of saying thank you.
Once the coats are collected in each venue, they will be taken to a local school the next day and given to disadvantaged kids. Seth also plans to bring his guitar and perform at one or more schools on the tour. Along the way, he will be doing many media events, including a show on XM/Sirius.
You can get specific details about the tour from Seth's website:www.sethglier.com. His music is powerful. We are grateful to have Seth helpin gus help disadvantaged kids. Thank you Seth!

Coats Delivered Outside DC Region Must Have Local Fundraising Support |
|
For the past four years, the Coats for Kids Foundation has had significant support that has allowed us to meet the need for winter coats far beyond our immediate area. In fact, we have delivered coats to 26 states and the District of Columbia! Almost 7,000 of the 12,000 new coats have been distributed in VA, DC, MD!
Today, we very much want to continue to help groups outside of our area, but our funding sources require us to give a clear, focused priority to Alexandria, VA and the surrounding DC metropolitan area.

The new order system is on-line and it is different from prior years. Here's how:
1. All coats in the Washington DC metro region (MD, VA, DC) are underwritten by contributions from the Combined Federal Campaign (federal employees via payroll deduction), Kids Helping Kids, Inc., Alexandria, VA, and the Susswein-Gottesman Fund, Alexandria, VA.
2. Fundraising will be necessary at the local, community level, to offset CFK's expenses to source and ship the coats outside of the DC metro region.
